As a picture framer it is always my aim to do a good job and leave the customer happy, whether i be framing a signed fotball shirt, a collection of medals, a cross stitch or a painting or print. When a customer comes into the shop to select a frame, we have samples of over a hundred frames, be they wood, gold, silver, or a colour, and then the mounts (the cardboard surround) So many shades, 6 blue, 8 green,5 pink, 2 black, and beleinve it or not 5 white.
It isnt unknown for a customer to spend over an hour chosing a frame and mount, afterall, it has to be done right as it is a long term thing. Some customers have ben known to bring in pieces of wallpaper, and fabrics used in the house to match them to the frame, but this would sugestr you change the frame each time you decorate!
Anyhoo. this morning, a customer came to colect a cross stich, and she complimented me on an excelent job, paid for it, and left. About half an hour ago she called the shop, and as i answered the phone she said,
'i came in to collect a cross stich this morning.' and she went on to discribe it.
Hang on a mo. i thought, what has she found wrong with it?(so cynical am i) A scratch on the glass? A chip on the frame? People have tried that one before, even tough it happened after they left the shop, and then, as sucjh it isnt our problem, but to keep the customer sweet we have offered to repair the damage at no cost to them, good customer relations is important, and they may mention us to other people. Anyway, i braced my self, but was slightly taken aback. The customer had called me to tel me that she had the frame on the wall, and that it looked. in her own words 'fantastic' and she went on to sday that she would definatly recomend us to her friends, and would infact be back next week with some more pictures for us to frame.
That is the first time anyone has phoned after taking a picture home with words of compliment. just goes to show, there are still some polite people in the world.
