That box in the corner

The TV, telly, idiot box, goggle box, television, what ever you choose to call it, for the next week or so it apears that the scedules are going to be filled with football and big brother.
To be totaly honest, I'm not a fan of either, but having no satelite or cable, and living in an area that still cant receive digital, nor even chanel five it isnt going to leave me with a great deal of viewing options.
So i can listen to the radio, catch up on some reading, and I have an endless supply of DVD's, but I cant help but feel a little sad at the lack of good drama shows.
Growing up I remember The Sweeny, Minder, Boys from the blackstuff, all the Alan Bennet, Ian Bleesdale, Jimmy McGovern shows that never get a lookin these days.
But I supose it all comes down to a ratings war and money. Reality TV doesnt cost that much to make, it brings in the viewers and ultimatly I guess makes lots of money.
I dont expect to see the scedules filled with top quality drama every day, but one can hope.
