So the latest initiative to get more people into the library, as user numbers dwindle is to do away with the 'silence' and make it more like a coffee shop so people can chat over a book with a coffee.
Or, you could just check the book out and go to Starbucks.
The library is the one remaining safe haven where you are sure to get a bit of peace.

I have way to many books. My book case is breaking under the weight. I keep trying to get rid of some in charity shops, but I always end up coming back with more than what I leave.

Yes, the best way to ensure that something stays successful is to remove anything that made it different or challenging in the first place - it just makes it more awkward. Hell, it worked for the Anglican church!

well, it would still be fairly quiet, as in you can't read and chat at the same time, even when drinking coffee. I like the sound of it, and if numbers are dwindling......

Pro Hmm, I think it might work IF... there were a separate section, a smaller area with a coffee shop and some couches.
I don't like the idea of mutating libraries into a Borders shop though...
