Good advice from Old-Nick there, I'd say do as he recommends. The big plus of that technique is that you can do it without anyone else watching, so your nerves should be somewhat diminished.

Are you any good at delivering the material? I have seen funny stuff delivered in an un-funny way, which killed it. But thinking about the material later you see that if your favorite comedian had said it, you would have laughed out loud.
Do the routine in front of a video camera and show it to people who you trust to give you an honest answer. If it goes well, hit the boards.
Or not.
